We are relaunching Dragon Press, founded in 1973, as a Sustainable Family Enterprise which will be headquartered at 10 Champlain Avenue in Westport, New York. Dragon Press, reimagined, will be an AI-driven design and innovation consultancy.
In the 1970s, Dragon Press was a bookselling operation and small press run by science fiction editor David Hartwell and antiquarian bookseller Lloyd Currey. This split into two businesses when David took over as the editor of the Timescape science fiction imprint for Simon & Schuster, with David retaining the Dragon Press name. Dragon Press continued small press publishing, and sold books at science fiction conventions, as well as operating a bookstore in Westport, New York. Dragon Press also published two magazines: The Little Magazine, a poetry magazine which was sold to SUNY Albany in the late 1980s, and The New York Review of Science Fiction, which Dragon Press published monthly for several decades, and which is now operated by Burrowing Wombat Press. David Hartwell died unexpectedly in January 2016 and Dragon Press has been dormant since then.
We are Kathryn Cramer, David Hartwell’s widow & creative collaborator; David’s children Peter Hartwell and Ratio Hartwell; along with Jasper Young; and Selena Shea. And we look forward to telling you more about this in the near future. Read more about our plans HERE.
